white tie greeting to self depravation

by Rachelle Howe

destruction
was my best nurse maid.

i would tear holes in Band-Aids,
fake twisted ankles and deliberately
sabotage the crutches that would be
my salvation.

but you never saved me,
you never
outstretched your sacred hand and
sang, "come, child, the darkness is waning,
come into the depths that will pick you
with their teeth."

gnaw, gnaw,
the marrow runs cold.

it trickles through the veins and
rapes diminished liberties.

Author's Note: inspired by maris kemp. her being random is all nudge i need. ;)
