from where i stand, it is just a four letter word

by Lauren Pearl

we live in a slipspace universe
where lovers tear at the bedsheets.

where you and i sleep, under this city
of busy streets and quiet places, is a
blanket of heaven waiting to smother you

waiting, as I have, to take it’s fair share
of your heart, bleeding out your imperfections
until you are bone marrow and molars

and not much else.

we speak in silences, scared to open
our mouths for all we touch turns
numb, cold and dying, then dead.

i gasped your name from my dying
throat; sobbing, whispered breath-
lessly into the mouthpiece,

i would believe in love
if it wasn’t so easy to fall out of.

Author's Note: this has holes and it feels incomplete. i think it will patch itself with time.
