i expected too much by expecting nothing at all by Lauren Pearli can't imagine what our
entangled legs
meant to those who had to watch
or to us, even, who
can never get our story straight anyway;
because it doesn't matter-
each camera captured the same thing,
four legs,
two hearts,
and a thousand darting eyes
in every possible direction.
tonight was the first night
she didn't bother me,
she called and wrapped
her gorgeous hair around her
pretty little finger; giggling
and whispering sweetly, softly,
seductively
into the telephone, practically
touching her lips to your ears;
though it wasnt the sound of my
heart
breaking
from the back seat, as much as
it was yours, for fear of breaking mine.
(cute, isnt it?)
and as we sat afterwards
armstouching
legstouching
hearts(practically)touching
in a room where there should not have been
enough air for two of us,
though somehow there was enough for four,
we threw her away, in petty jokes and
playful eyes and as you drove me home
i was sure I was going to kiss you,
until I grew too uncertain that you might
forget my name by morning
(or worse,
mistake it)
06/18/2004 Author's Note: lalalalalalalala. it's funny, because i know she means nothing to you, and i know it was my hand in yours, and i know this is ridiculous. i'm jealous and insensitive and i just don't know where i stand.
