mystery man

by Angela Thomas

i weighed the consequences, again and again, trying to find
if it was right, if what I was about to do was okay. I looked
in your late night voice, the stops on the elevator, your hands
close to mine on the table that day at work, and I decided
that giving it a chance would do less harm than if I never
had my lips and my legs wrapped around you. Your tattoo
reads, "sacrifice," and that was exactly what I intended to do.
