In the interim of goodbye by Karen MichelleIn these days
that smack of
novelty and mystery,
I miss the subtlety
of becoming -
longing for the
smooth touch of
friendship and
the gentle slip
into something more.
We inhaled
these moments together,
once, years ago,
but now I awake
to the daily reminder
that this shine
has found new ways
to sparkle.
Not that I regret
the passage of time,
nor mourn the
inevitable death of
giddy beginnings.
But let me swim
in tangible nostalgia
in the intermission of
endings and beginnings;
greetings and farewells.
These days
will be nothing more
than expired air soon -
a vacant departure lounge,
vacuum sealed and
stored on the shelves
of my memory.
And I will return
to this daily love affair
untainted by the brush
of seasonal regret,
for there is no hurt
to be found here -
only pockets full of
life... 06/18/2004 Posted on 06/17/2004 Copyright © 2024 Karen Michelle
