(lyric) you could be a devil {if not for those white wings} by Richard Paezyou could be a devil if not for those white wings
save me or tempt me raise me up or pull me deeper just don’t let me go— i’m too high now to survive the fall
this is the sum of everything add up all my sins you are still the one that keeps me high
up here i can see everything— those little moments laughed away between the sheets of innocence all those dreams we’d realize one day
from up here i see everything— the pain that grew between us behind the doors of jealousy all those whispers that tore our trust
this is the sum of everything that ever meant anything— wiped clean
you could be a devil if not for that halo
but it’s all the same raise me up, pin me to the cross just don’t let me go— i’m hung too high to survive the fall
this is the sum of everything cut me down or forget me you are still the one holding me high
you could be a devil if not for those white wings

if not for those white wings"
This best line I've written in a long time. I don't know if the rest of the lyric holds up. I have this ache inside--all I want to do anymore is sing the blues on a back-light stage in a smoky room. Nothing else seems worth doing anymore. My dues--I wrote the line after reading Astrid Zen’s “you my eyes” while listening to Dave Matthews.

that was my favorite part. it gave me chills. i liked the song-like flow of this. you weave together words in a way that captivates the reader in beauty. good work. |
Posted by Richard D Frederick on 06/12/04 at 01:58 PM a compelling title, and a lyric that did not disappoint. perhaps something bluesy? |
Posted by Michele Schottelkorb on 06/13/04 at 03:40 PM if you do perchance get a gig in a smoky blues club... please let me know... all i've ever wanted was to sit in one of those clubs and melt away... the repitition of "everything" is powerful and chilling... and "you could be a devil
if not for those white wings"... now, that is a line to be proud of... like a lover, a confidant... even a parent... something to think on... i wonder, how many of these "almost" devils are flying around... sing it, richard... blessings... |
