Fathers Love

by Charles M Harrison

From a babe into a man you have watched me grow.
Teaching me with a fathers love, that I shall someday know.
With your callused but gentle hands you guided my first step.
You rocked me in your muscled arms, gently while I slept.
Through the years of childhood you corrected when I misbehaved.
You also taught and encouraged me with the gentle words you gave.
Even through my teenage years when I thought I knew it all.
You watched and waited always ready to catch me if I might fall.
As a man I now cherish and long for your advise.
To help me thorugh the rough and troubled times in life.
How I hope that I also might do as you have done,
And pass the things I've learned from you to my daughter or my son.
I pray that I might teach them all they need to know,
That the love you planted in me, in them will continue to grow.
