Wings Won't Grow

by J. P. Davies

Deciding to fly today,
realizations come quick.
Wings are not merely grown,
but born to the gifted few.

Trying to find a wind
to carry souls upwards
is easier than finding
one to bear up bodies.

The sky calls with wind-words,
as grounded struggling flightless,
I must reply with exhaustion

wings just won't
grow swiftly.
