Morning Bus Villanelle by Maureen Glaudeshell be glad when this day is done
the woman on the morning bus to work
another day, another dollar comes
her novel in her lap, eyes closed from
the crowd of civil servants and store clerks
shell be glad when this day is done
morning dragging her with everyone
risen from their slumber, for what lurks
another day, another dollar comes
she leaves home in darkness, returns past sun
for an office run by directorial jerks
shell be glad when this day is done
her mind on remote for her stop to come
she knows the bus route by each twist and jerk
another day, another dollar comes
she rings the bell and forces her way out
through the standing army as they lurk
shell be glad when this day is done
another day, another dollar comes
