To a Marine Dying by Meredith C Hartwellfor R
Their green cotton uniforms
offer no solace now,
though their heroism held you
in our company
long years gone.
From our earliest memories,
you filled our heads with
Duty. Honor. Country.
and respect for all their uniforms.
A hero never dies.
You have only waited.
What uniform will they bury you in?
What honor is there in surrender? 05/02/2004 Author's Note: I am far too close to this subject, and this poem needs a great deal of revision. Any feedback would be appreciated.
