Cheshire Smile

by Trisha De Gracia

How I never knew a smile
could change so fast with just one glance.
Go blank with just one moment's notice
gone, without a trace.

I fear that maybe on that stage
I sang my songs for both of us.
That maybe there I reappeared
a silhouette of what you were.

Our personalities imploding
we both grin across our faces with
the smoothest curv'ed lines
to mark deception deep within.

I think I feared that I had seen
that toothy counterfeit of yours
a fleeting moment in the
dress-room mirror.

Good read. Though, I had trouble making a few connections as well.
