Curtis Stumps, Legless Veteran (Human Monsters)

by Jersey D Gibson

Rolling on your life for so long,
rubber wheels your only guides.
With pants that were always too long,
that Toe Popper, 25 years ago.

You've known these streets all along,
survived one jungle, live in another.
What your steely eyes have seen?
The world slowly falling apart.

Beg for money, beg for food,
what good is a veteran now?
Beg for love, beg to be remembered,
what good is a cripple now?

You wheeled all over MLK blvd.
you knew every nook and crannie.
Watched all the children grow up,
you knew every crook and nanny.

Good Ol' Curtis, with an eye for women,
hero, cripple, likes helping people out.
Cops never knew that you ran crank,
thugs never knew you were a snitch.

I guess knowing your situation,
you didn't have much to lose.
You had to make money somehow,
burning both ends of the candle.
