untitled (reflections of a dreary morning)

by Kalikala Smith

The morning we wake up
to drive four hours south
is the morning that
our ceiling decides to leak
all over our toilet
leaving us to wonder
just how fucked up
this day is actually going to be...

This is the morning
that we make our way south
four hours
so that we can hug, love, support
our roommate
who's just lost her mother
who we've never met
and we won't meet
for quite some time...

This morning
we find ourselves
praying
for some sort of reason
why we're not allowed
to pee in our own apartment
find ourselves
wondering
what our reaction should be...

Mourning
and all we know is death.

To your friend's mother, may she rest in peace. And too your leaky ceiling, may it never fall down. Great dedication Crystal. I really like this piece.

Yeah that's a dreary one for sure! Great work. May you be able to pee in your own toilet soon. Amen.
