10,000 Horses

by Charles J Hannan

Dear, it's been too long
Touching the curve of your cheek
Is still on my mind
We just need to run away
Together

Never to look back
To feel the emptiness of alone

It takes inner strength
Like 10,000 horses
To endure this pain
Knowing I'm waking up
Without the scent
Of your hair on my pillow

I still taste those bitter tears
When I left
They are etched on my face
Wounded soul limping home
The miles between us are stretched
But my heart still beats your rhythm

A real heartfelt piece with the closing lines so powerfully stated.
