Tomboy

by Mary Ellen Smith

She’s a ballerina in her cutoff jeans
Trading frogs for jelly beans.
Running hard to run ahead,
Curly locks ringing her head.

Her world is crayon colored bright
Imaginations own delight.
Pictured brilliance of her mind
Leaving smiles and mud behind.

She’ll race you up the tallest tree
Not notice that she skinned her knee.
Dig for worms just like the boys
Baseball and bat her favorite toys.

It isn’t quite what you would think.
But she always wears a bit of pink
The blush that sits upon her cheeks,
And rose bud lips from whence she speaks.

A bit whimsical, sentimental, very descriptive.

I love this! Wonderful descriptions. Sounds a bit like our daughter. Must add this to my faves.

What Michelle said. Great poem, brought back memories. Long before I met Michelle I dated a girl who wore baseball hats, and chewed skoal LOL. I never cottoned much to the 'prissy' type girls. Great poem M.E.

This is a well-turned verse and a wonderful glimpse that resonates with me, Mary Ellen. I have a daughter who is a home with a little dirt under her nails too. Pe4ce...
