you don't know me/an ode the posers

by Lisa-Dawn Sparling

You don’t know what makes me tick,

You don’t know what makes my heart dance,

You don’t know what makes me cry,

You don’t know how sincere I am,

You don’t know that I always cheer for the underdog,

You don’t know how much I have had to overcome,

You don’t know how much of a struggle it can be to just be okay,

You don’t know when I need you to be strong,

You don’t know when I need a pat on the back,

You don’t know when I need to cry.

You don’t know that I never mean any harm,

You don’t know how many times I have kept your name out of the mud,

You don’t know how many times I wish I hadn’t.

You don’t know how patient I have been,

You don’t know how much it hurts that you say that you know me,

You don’t know how much energy I waste caring how you feel.

I am beginning to think that you don’t know me.
