Tissue by Sam Roberts
Where boys have thrown their sticks a path has been made for me
I saw a snake floating here, he was neglected
and resentfully so, opened his mouth, tasting a cocoon skeleton
That unwinds, lying just off his tissue, in fine scratch marks, hidden upon hair;
Balmy, wispy charcoal prints
Melting along his back, as the sun dives
He is my water print creation, hacking at my vulture wings
His fork tongue cuts my pallid head apart
Stillness and peace -
they have made it into the water tonight
The stars -
they reflect my deserted basin smile.

Posted by Graeme Fielden on 04/16/04 at 12:38 PM I agree with Chad - the imagery and symbolism is amazing throughout however the first stanza seems to need a little re-working to help those images flow.The second is perfect! Nice work Sam! |

Posted by Ashok Sharda on 04/17/04 at 01:46 PM The imagery is subtle and so suggestive.I think the second stanza does need some tightening. |
