Metamorphosis

by Christel Crews

I'm cocooned from the world around me
trapped inside an invisible wall
No one gets in
Nothing gets out
I see life moving all about me

Daily tasks hold no feeling
If I make it out of bed
I've made it
through the day
Where is the life I once lived

My friends stay at a distance where
their words always fall just short of me
They don't know
what to say
Sleep and tears, my only comfort

Will this cocoon ever produce
something of beauty and value
On the inside
The world is gray
Where is the color of life?

stirring and significant, that sense of friends staying at a safe distance, etc. so haunting and precarious. Well done.

i know i commented on this poem already, but i feel like commenting on it again. i really can understand what you're talking about. that feeling of dislocation from the world is a strange one, and it is so hard to get out of. you write about it well. like i said before, i like the metaphor. i really think its perfect for the feeling.
