discovering (i)

by Lindsay Sanders

the crack in the windowpane
yields just enough light to see
the darkness. (i) am wondering
if (i) could find the patterns in
the wind, would it all become
clear like day? but shivers tend
to interfere with my concentration.

(i) never thought (i)’d be here, by this
windowpane, listening to the wind.
where did (i) go? {or am (i) still here?}
(i) watch as my feeble hands cover
the crack with masking tape, cutting
off the light and turning the wind into
static.

and i am still here.
