Without Her

by Richard Vince

Playful lights dance in the window
And all the people walk past
With somewhere to go

But I have nowhere and no one
And so I sit under haunting lights
And wonder what could have been
What might one day still be…
But our fear will have the last word
And our words will hold the last fear

Her words haunt me…
Her voice like crush velvet
Echoes around my mind

The hands I never held
The lips I never kissed
Are out there, miles away

And her heart I almost touched
Beats alone, like mine
My empty heart without her love
That hopes she might one day take it
And call it her own

So I sit here alone
Watching from the window
Because I will always be alone

Without her.

a bleak but interesting picture you capture here, I think you could improve on the flow between the stanzas to make it more cohesive.
