Adam

by Leonard M Hawkes

Once, I knew this
Restless gasp of Spring:
The Rush that whistled
In my hollow Heart
As it gushed on down
From the Canyon.

"Adam" we called it
In the Old Tongue,
"Adam," the Breath
Of Life: the promising
Movement from
The marginal Cold
Realities of now, to
The honest potential
Warmth of possibility.

"Adam, Adam, Adam,
Where art thou?"
