This Isn't Love for The Last Time

by Trisha De Gracia

I'm sitting here spellbound.
I'm calling out your name.
I'm sorry,
I'll forget you now
(and then).

We know sooner or later
we'll say the goodbye words,
the parting farewells;
pack your suitcase,
it's over-
just leave it...

You'll see her again
when you make your way home.

You'll remember her face
and the way that her smiles
lit you up inside.

I know it's not possible
now.
You'll recall that old love
when the plane touches down
and my smiles and our fame will be over.

Just forget it
forget this
and swallow back tears.
We can fight for a dream that's not ever been real
but we'll lose it and leave it behind
in the end either way that we go
so just push back that hope for another time.

(I hope her smile still
lights you up inside...)

Author's Note: Over before it's even ended. The inevitable will play itself through. Letters bi-weekly then monthly then yearly then once in a while when we find enough time to remember good times with old friends. It's back to old loves you've forgetten about. It's the family you'll find back at home and the bed you've missed sleeping in. It's your dresser and school and friends that seem all too in place to be real anymore. Is it ever the people you talk about once you get back?

It's like over-thinking something that hasn't happened yet... Which I'm constantly doing. It's sad, but there's something fun about the way it flows... Anyway, great piece. ~Nita
