The Air Swept My Feathers Away

by J. P. Davies

I wish I could find the words
to describe how it feels when
you leave me here all alone.

It's like my wings have shed
every feather, and are shaking
sadly in the breeze.
Trying in vain, to remember
how to fly away.

When the dust of your passing
shapes itself in wayward cyclones,
I stare upwards at your flight
through the stinging grit.

I cannot recall whether
you used to spend time
with me on the ground,
or I with you upon the air.
But it seems as if the ground
has fought it's way up to me,
as the air swept my feathers away.

I suppose that's how it feels,
but the words aren't enough
to describe this situation.
I guess you'd just have to be there.

I find this one of the most beautiful I've found here in a long time. I felt like I was even looking down at this person, standing alone, and could really empathize.

Moving and sad and well put... and I hate it when words aren't enough to describe how I'm feeling... ~Nita
