Today I will walk but one mile by Michele SchottelkorbI would walk a thousand miles To lie upon your precious feet But today I will walk but one mile With the thought of a thousand pushing my limits And rest With the thirst of quest
I would crawl a hundred miles To gaze upon your chiseled face But today I will walk but one mile With the dream of a hundred feeding my expanding heart And rest With the prayers of love
I would dance ten miles To embrace you in my loyal arms But today I will walk but one mile With the satisfaction of ten permeating my soul And rest With the hope you will walk nine

03/18/2004 Author's Note: Ashok has written this note to accompany this poem:
"I decide to walk ten miles and that's my goal.
The goal is always a dream capable of becoming a barrier in our pursuit of
this goal.
The dream must remain in the backdrop. The AIM should be the first
milestone.
There's a definite LAW, omnipresent, known as the Law of
Heptaparaparshinokh. Ancient Chinese called it the law of change/variation.
I, jokingly, have named it the Law of Boredom. A DO automatically develops
into a RE and so on but somewhere in between there's a half note, a gap, and
its here where the path takes an about turn. Where we do opposite of what we
seek
where faith breed's doubts;
Truth culminates into untruth;
Friends become foe;
Sweet turns to sour and
the octave turns round.
Its here where every milestone should be a new beginning, a new DO, which
shall commence afresh with new vigor, intense passion, unhindered attention
and endeavor.
Michele has constructed this beautiful piece around love but the central
idea remains intact in the center/core." ***this was my lesson: to write about striving for ten miles, but going one, all the while, keeping the goal of ten miles in my head... i took it a little different direction with a love poem to my husband, but Ashok assured me that i did retain the core lesson... thank you, Ashok, for your help with this one... it is a very poignant and vital piece of knowledge... blessings...

Posted by Ashok Sharda on 03/21/04 at 01:07 AM What matters is SEEING what is. What matters more is putting into application what one has SEEN as what is. You have SEEN correctly. You have presented the SCENE as SEEN, Now, you have to put the SEEN into application, battling with your unwanted selves in the course of this destination. KNOWING isn't enough.Knowing of the path alone would not lead you to the destination WALK UNWALKED. All the best dear Michele. |

Posted by Rula Shin on 07/09/04 at 10:52 PM What an amazing read Michele, truly. The ending was especially beautiful, and the assumption is that upon walking one mile, then one mile again, the hope is each time renewed to him walking 8, then renewed to 7, and with this renewed hope you return to DO with the goal of TI merely as a backdrop for that one mile that continues to be the first milestonealways and forever every mile should be the first milestone. Thats how I saw this. Beautiful. |
Posted by Michelle Angelini on 01/17/05 at 07:48 PM Michele, this is so beautiful. Wonderful lesson and with the help of Ashok, so well crafted. I see the central core of love and the discipline of keeping to the ultimate goal.

Posted by Jessica A Steenbock on 08/09/08 at 03:06 AM I believe we should all look at the lesson presented as a way to better our own selves. I have been wondering what I have done all this time, and for the first time, had a different perspective. Thank you both. |
