F. The Drive

by Christel Crews

All alone, on a rainy day, I thought
about going for a drive
and I asked you to join me.

As we got in my car, you pulled out
your cds and we were off
Our first stop, of course,
was for coffee

The road was long and the music rolled us along
you turned to me, as I stared at the road
"So what's new? I see a drastic change in you?"

I smiled as I turned the wheel
taking us down an unknown road
"Why didn't you just tell me what was holding me in that
forsaken state?
I hated it and I was so desperate to get out
yet you waited until the LAST possible moment
before showing me
that the only thing keeping me there- was me?
I searched for answers in everything but me,
and all along I just needed to let the past be!

This is really hard for me
I can forgive people for the most hideous of crimes,
yet I hold myself a grudge
no matter the size.
How do you not judge my sin?
How do you give mercy when its not even asked for,
nor deserved?
I'm undone by you."

"You see, my dear
I stopped looking at your surface years ago.
I search the motive behind the action
and in dissecting your actions down to the initial spark,
I saw the innocence of it all-
I saw you covered by my Son's mantle-
how could I judge you?"

I turned the music up a bit.
I knew you liked that song.
You sipped your coffee as we
drove on...

Author's Note: ahhh... nothing like a long drive and a nice conversation with your Daddy on a rainy day :) i wrote this months ago-- probably over the summer, but there is no date on my draft.

Hi Christel, The Drive, It's beautiful, sending the day with your Dad, on a long drive.
