The effects of semen and skin on an otherwise lifeless girl

by Vikki Owens

Having lost our momentum
there is a pause here, a brief suspension
between getting to and getting into bed.

In this iota of a moment I have cause
to consider what puts me here
sweat and skin
an upward spiral from minute to minute,
A kiss, a thought, a memory
of sex with other men,
a memory of children in another life.
An interlude of stolen girls pushed down,
covered in grime by hands and eyes.
A descent in weight, a vanishing of that girl,
once I pulled up from a puddle of melted me,
the bones refleshed
those were what I made for you to love.
To lay here with on this mattress.

Peel back the sheets and those are not just
your stains, but the stains of me, and those who
stained me.
If I close my eyes we are not alone, and I am not this
size,
I am endlessly shrinking and regrowing in
accordance with the mood.

So shock me back to where we are
right now.
In the midst of a fall into deep love
I do not need lightning memorys.
Breathe life into me
before
we hit the bed.
