Closing Eyes: A free ticket out.

by Deanna M Gritsonis

Here’s a little story of a girl
Filled with the rage of the world
Something you couldn’t tell sometimes
She tries to hide

Of the chains that are invisible to anyone but her
That hold her to her place
To keep her stuck

And if anyone knew her secret she is sure they couldn’t look her in eye
Of the times where she couldn’t hold it in and began to cry.

For her mind would travel threw books and out windows and deep inside
She would go places she couldn’t alive
So she closed her eyes and drifted away to places she longed to see

To the green fields… to temples….to the clouds…to the center of the Earth and back.

To dance on stars…to a real cowboy bar…to the culture of lands she had only read about.

And no matter who could hold her or kiss her or love her it wasn’t enough she wanted the beauty of the world to touch.

And even in a room filled with friends, she sat alone inside her head… wanting more to see and do then this.

Then the girl got older and more wise

But still she traveled in her mind, waiting for the days when she could leave and find all the places and things, that made her eyes wide with wonder and passion
for she knew it was a matter of time when she could pack her bags and not look behind.

I loved this poem and I can totally relate to the feeling of restlessness...if only I had the means to travel the world...
