Ode To Passion

by Robert Cameron Hazelton

Does familiarity spawn disdain?
Can desire be weakened by attrition?
True love’s commitment should never wane
from predictability’s derision,
many foibles are a pre-condition
overlooked when lust engorges the heart,
but soon they can foster inhibition
as sweet throes of passion slowly depart.

Is the quest for oneness never in vain?
Egos seldom embrace the addition,
amorous sacrifice brings intense pain
foul despair one could never envision
condemning life to lonely perdition
shackled in the dismal pit of a heart
forever doomed to doubt and suspicion
as sweet throes of passion sadly depart.

Facing the door, will you choose to remain,
can you wrangle your fears to submission?
Distrusting spirits will never stay twain
insecurity leads to division,
betrayal’s blade leaves a deep incision
impairing an already battered heart
with a cold and bitter disposition
as sweet throes of passion surely depart.

Love is an epic of indecision
a confusing saga for any heart
that oft requires a new definition
when sweet throes of passion finally depart.
