To You

by Thomas K. Hunt

When life is full on the outside
Yet so empty deep within
There's no place to run and hide
Except to a lifelong friend

For they can see inside you
They know where you've been
They can steal your blues
Then give them back again

Nothing phony, all upfront
Laid out on the table
Never held back, always blunt
Can destroy, they're very able

Destruction for the good of the many
Is what they aim to do
Bring the laughter good and plenty
If they find some dirt on you

Roll me over to the next one
There's got to be something new
Clear the path for the hurricane
It may find some dirt on you

On the day we shop for rockers
To rut the floorboards in our path
You'll still be telling Bette tales
Provoking my violent wrath

And tears will fall from laughter
As another minute passes by
I'll join you for the party after
Where we'll never have to say goodbye

It burns like sunshine and warms the heart
To be included in such company
For a lifelong friend
Is what you are to me
