Lying to Myself

by John Harder

Some yesteryear I knew of you
You thought highly of me
or so I was told
Times have changed from then
I put myself in your shoes
Albeit without intention
You now look the other way
then the other and yet another
while turning from my line of sight
I had hoped to catch you in my view
yet you seem to have another

It bothers me
to think of these things
Feelings are gone
and nothing has changed

I too, can look the other way
and leave you wishing I hadn't
I too, can see another
while you look to me
I too, can ignore my gut feelings

Your back is ripe for a stabbing
Mine still trickles blood
from not too long ago
Something must break
either my thoughts, or your head
Some time it must take
to think less of this dread
I too, can lie to myself

Without affecting within. External associations 'effecting' this charge, emotional but negative.
