The land of in, between

by Karen Michelle

I envy your limitless self,
twisting through the air of opportunity
once, twice, three times,
where my body's own rotation
numbers less than one.

Older as I am,
my wisdom is stilted,
tilted, leaning towards
subconscious unconsciousness -
the third eye of
my inner woman
sleeps the sleep of
the innocent and afraid.

But she will awaken
in the early sighs of autumn,
surrounded by the voice
of revelation and expectation,
the song of re-education.

And just like the leaves,
seasonal rebirth will
turn her little girl face
into her greatest asset.
