northwestnorth

by Lauren Pearl

i wait for december with
the gentle silence of a rain-
cloud and the turbulant anger
of its energy. effigies painted
across the sidewalks, swept clean
of the frozen snowflakes and
empty memories of Summer-
although, i am not sure of the
necessity of Her return,
for i have found solitude where
the sidewalk meets its cracks
under my sacriligous feet
and the pain of four hundred winds
could not turn them from their
northwestnorth facing longitude.
the crispness of the grass and the
longing for the days to roll have
passed- i am left wishing for that
invisible boy i never had
and that azure sky after a
sleep-away storm--

with soothing suffocation and the
breath of a thousand songs, i
turn my back on the queries of
another december dusting.
