Bumper Cars (2) by Angela Thomas
My mother was on one phone, telling
me about how i had no insurance.
I was on the other phone with the police,
explaining that to them
while there you were, talking to me on
the computer, saying how
I sickened you. I flipped closed one phone,
hung up the other, and stared
at the screen- I was begging to talk to you.
Finally, the call went through
and all we could both do was yell and cry,
screaming about infidelity
and who's fault it was and then, you got a beep,
could I hold?
You came back, and I said, like a movie,
where we were scripted
to have a passionate embrace, let's not fight.
i heard you sigh loud
into the phone, so i started to talk,
i told you how my insurance
was cancelled, and when i hit that person too,
I really hadn't even seen
them, they came out of nowhere. Then again,
it's not like you're ever looking
for it when you play bumper cars after work
with people that didn't know
they were playing.
