much like breathing water

by Lauren Pearl

the air is intoxicated with you
and it feels like i am constantly
breathing water or swallowing tar
or maybe a hodgepodge of the two
candy-coated trees line the winding
paths upon which we walk awkwardly
hand-in-hand as if any separation
would light the world in a blinding
array of disjointed shards of
rebellious rays sprinkled with a
soft sentiment of an azure morning
sky. above us the peaceful dove
weaves between the rabid scintillations
and the florescent tails of our wandering
souls creating a pseudo rainbow for the
world to bask in. we must be under Satan’s
mighty rule for the world does not seem
to jab at my soft scars as it did yesterday
maybe tomorrow I can inhale confidently-
thank you for teaching me to breathe.
