the stars, in their entirety

by Lauren Pearl

Somewhere between
Venus and Neptune
I have found myself
bending over backwards
trying to touch the
core of the earth
with our dirty little
secrets and our
outstretched, forever-
longing finger tips.

Somewhere between
yesterday and infinity
I have found you
red-faced and teary-eyed
gasping for breath
with premature lungs,
only coming up with
enough oxygen to pull
you from Death's grasp,
from the arms of a martyr.

Somewhere between
autumn and spring
I have found us
skipping through street-
lights and swinging like
strippers around lamp-
posts and laughing with
the latest New York Times'
hijackers- seemingly unnoticed
through the eyes of children.

Somewhere between
day and night
I have found this
eternal bliss cloaked in
an iridescent cape, shining
like Morning’s dew
you light this up in its entirety-
but you are not the smiling
crescent Autumn Moon--
No, you are the fucking Night Sky.
