I’ve never met someone
who’s words ring out like yours
in cadence between the backdrop of heart beats –
I never knew how natural it would feel
to hold my breath
just to experience it

You sang past sunrise
till sunset came through the window
and drew me up in the light of your bedroom -
calling out every matchstick emotion
to burn wildly
inside me

Showed me what its like
to be thirsty in shallow water
as you dab the moisture from my skin –
pushed me past exhaustion
till I understood the meaning
and It was no long just a word

To say a word so many times and to never really know it
is just one example of the static
keeping us frozen

I try each day to learn something new -
Put positive words into the world
and hope them to spread and grow for the better
Each night I see you
I am drifting on dreams that you never built
laying myself upon you
I plant those same seeds
hoping we can know them together
to grow in the ocean of life
where hardships are set to sail
and realize the only promise land
is found within
