Faith not Religion

by Carl Walker

Faith and religion

Inseparable

But not friends

Each one vying

To be my suitor

Is it the one

Or is it the other

I believe I see when others get them twisted

But can I see when I do

Are they my enemies

Or are they my brothers

Religious friends cry, “Impostor”

When what I see is faith

How to tell the impostor

A most important puzzle

Faith puts people above form

Even religious people

Faith puts fulfillment over happiness

Connection over correctness

Religion is quick to judge

Slow to forgive

Demanding something FROM people

Faith seeks something FOR people

Even the religious

Religious people rarely question their own motives

Faith people often question their motives

And thus become

Just a little

More free of religion

Religion seeks an absence of hate

And calls that love

When it is really just neglect

You bring more light to the debate! Religion may be of faith. Faith can be a part of religion. But surely religion is not necessarily of faith. You've made the point well. ( Explicit??? )

Always an interesting topic to me. Religion, totally flawed. It is just away of letting one man control another. Faith however... I don't understand the concept of Faith. Some, like myself, seek knowledge and proof - evidence of the divine. Others simply say, "Have faith." I think truth and knowledge replace faith unequivocally. Not just that, but the simple statement, "Have faith" to me is blind and ignorant. Searching for evidence is practiced faith, as all scientific minds have faith they can find truth. A scientist does not disregard the truth, but holds it in respect above all else. So as science and discovery search for "evidence" of God, I believe they have the greatest faith as once they can see it, they will praise it. Unfortunately most people can't just look at the stars and be satisfied that the Universe is clearly divine in it's own right. It is our feeble minds that can not comprehend God, not the lack of God, that perpetuates the debates.
