Black and White

by Aaron Blair

I lay my head on your chest
to hear the tribal drum
beat of your heart,
the whole continent of Africa
tucked beneath your ribs.

My father said, once,
"never bring home a nigger,"
so I brought myself to him, instead,
and made his body a home.

Author's Note: To fetishize the differences between us is a little hard not to do, I think.

Absolutely beautiful. The greater beauty is that you've found a love that feels like home. Wonderful poem here.
