My Incentive

by Amanda L Marron

I can't seem to erase you
And I don't wanna deface you
I'm sitting here penciling this trace
So I can remember the contours of your face

Your voice echoes throughout my mind
I just can't leave my memories behind
So far yet so near
Your sincerity, it brings me to tears

You know all that I can be
I could come this far, to see
Everything that lays out before me
Opportunities as vast as the sea

And even when I wanted to give in
You looked me in the eye and said "It's you, I believe in"
My days are brightened with your every grin
You've awakened something within

Singing together, our voices combined as one
From you darling, I'd never run
It took all I had to walk away and not cry
As soon as I stopped to think, it all erupted with one sigh

You've struck a chord in my heart
As I let down my guard
You're one from who I'll never stray
And we WILL meet again one sweet day

Author's Note: i did not write any poetry during the time I was at boot camp.....this is the first piece I wrote once leaving boot camp. it's about a guy i met there who is unlike anyone else i have ever met. he gave me hope and inspiration and motivation, and most of all a friend when i needed it the most. now he's in charleston, south carolina for 2 years and i wont see him for a very long time. though i talk to him a few times a week, it still hurts and i miss him greatly. so this is for you Luis.
