Car Ride to California

by Beth K Hannah

The sunshine reflecting off the hood of the car
And into our eyes
Is the epitome of all our goals.
I know as you change CDs
That we can never go home,
And our lives will never be as orderly as tracks on a disc.
This simple run and hide game
Will only last until darkness lays down her sweet head.

The flower in my hair is slowly wilting,
The wine slowly drips down our throats,
And the love in our eyes slowly fades.
Jimmy Page revives us once in awhile,
Promising us California, hypnotizing eyes, and guitars.
You make all these words and miles
Flow into one another and meddle with the music.
The passing fields have nothing
On our fleeting escape.

The sun dips lower on the horizon
And the highway continues to stretch her legs.
Our little car cannot make it much longer;
Neither can our restless feet.
We pull into a cafe past the state line;
Nothing like tequila and lust to sway the mirages.
You replace the flower in my hair and
Regather the love in your eyes.

I love this song... I just had to write a poem about it.

It's perfect Bethy. A wonderful tribute to such a wonderful song.
