Sparkling Cage

by Aaron Blair

Haven't I loved you?
Yet, you would have my passion
folded back in on itself, and bound,
a gilded lily, a useless broken foot.
You would chain it until it could
never hope to prove itself to you.
You would have my body taken
apart, the pieces reassembled
into a more pleasing shape.
You would have me molded into
some most perfect vision, make
a beautiful, sparkling cage to keep
in whatever it is that I am now.

Just gorgeous. What an opening line. "Haven't I loved you?" This is really something. Nice work.
