on this earth

by Emily Davidson

you said your favorite thing
about us
was all that we had weathered together
you said that there was nothing
on this earth that could change
what we had
[our logic - manipulated by
our lovesick stomachs - was
all we had
to guide us]

it can be our inhales or exhales
that say what is
off-limits
so maybe we'll have to
hold our breath
from now on

i remember
your lips making that
angel-smirk, the one that could kill;
that smile to my cheek
and my arm draped
over your shoulder
resting, or maybe just
waiting:
this beautiful composition
of us
cheek to cheek
and
eye to eye
grew silent
for a greater good

you said i was something
special to you
you said that there was nothing
on this earth that could change
what we had
[our logic - manipulated by
our lovesick stomachs - was
all we had
to guide us]

the paranthetical bit about lovesick stomachs = so awesome. I also especially like the second stanza.
