lilies for the white faced girl by Rachelle Howethe gods aren't the only ones
blessed with immortality.
i stand here, in human flesh,
Zeus, as i wander
through the rows and rows
of your mind. down,
those aisles that blink.
they blink, like fish,
and toss me topsy-turvy.
i love it, as i'm spiraling.
you're the blanket that
covers the grass, as we
gaze at the animals
in the clouds. i see a zebra,
and you toss your head back
with a laugh, running your fingers
along my pale skin,
singing the demons away. they're
in your throat now,
you spit and say,
"this is the least of it, my darling,
this is the least of the world.
and this is what we've become,
so, lets dance, dance, dance..."
we do.
slow, and you blush, nervous
in your newfound nudity.

Posted by Mainon A Schwartz on 02/11/04 at 06:55 PM I've got zebras wandering through my head now, and I'm trying to reconcile them with nudity. You're making it difficult for me, very difficult, for me who likes to see the theme and the cohesion. Okay, I'm breaking, I'm going to ask... why... why a zebra? And for the record, I love the last two stanzas... and I challenge you to find a word to substitute for "demons"-- I think you use it like a crutch, slightly too often. But we all have our crutches... |
