Bass Drum

by David Neubauer

The bass drum really needs to stop,
it's drumbeat throbbing through my head,
setting my eyes crossed, and
my soul weary. The violins,
acid bows screeching,
the drum-beat rhymically
pulsing, pounding through my head.
The trumpet flare, and my eyes
blur, white spots dancing
on a wind that isn't there...
And that damned drum keeps going,
so loud in my ears,
and it's so difficult
to quiet a
heartbeat.

i knew it was a heartbeat. try floating in a sensory deprivation tank sometime. it's like being INSIDE the drum
