Sunrise: West Third North

by Leonard M Hawkes

Near Donkey Tree--
Hirschi's Swamp
The eastern fringe,
The White Dead Poplar
On the north--
Mid-field and naked
Souled, we met the God:

Ah, Apollo's
Earliest seduction--
Golden glistening blades
Slicing through hollows
Of the eastern hills,
Penetrating wanton hearts
In midsummer's ritual--

Immersed in Phoebus'
Lustrous immolation,
Feet bare on holy ground;
Shimmering, trembling,
Embraced in the
Dewy ablution
Transcending Youth.
