Midnight Stroll

by Christel Crews

Our late night stroll through a winding path
The frost bites at my fingers and nose
But there is warmth in the sweet serenity
Your voice takes my breath away
Tender words carefully spoken, not to be misunderstood
I cherished every sound; I sat still, captured, unable to speak

Another night and there I sit
Reality coursing through my veins
I hear you, my head falls with every word
No more, no peace, no hope
Though I don’t agree; I leave
And still I have yet to speak

You made every day so much brighter
Hours were as minutes when you were near
Piercing eyes, to search my soul
A safe embrace, I felt so full
A gentle touch, you’d lift my downcast head
Your strength gave me courage to stand again

There was a promise I made
I am determined, I will see this through
I will wait for you
And some day, I pray, you join me for
Another late night stroll
