lonely

by Emily Davidson

i'm not lonely, i swear. i'm just alone.
there's a difference.
everybody's got their somebody,
their person to tell secrets to,
to hold under the sheets,
to say "i love you" to.
not me.
i'm just alone.

most people walk down the street with their fingers
doing some sort of
tango
with someone else's hand, but
i walk down the street with my hands in a fist
in my pockets.
because no one will hold my hand
and i don't want anyone to, anyway.

everyone's got a "honey" or a "baby." not me.
i'm not lonely, i swear.
i'm just alone.

How very sad...heartfelt. Feels like you just spilled out of your pen...raw emotion :-)

The second stanza is a really nice image, the dance and the hands in pocket. I think you can really build something off of that. Very pretty and sad.
