My Ten Second Life(time)

by Quinlan L Gibson

I stared at death; into it’s eyes; with it’s hands around my neck
so to this day I can’t forget those ten seconds in my life.
I was to be his wife; This wasn’t new, just was denied.
Mere seconds are a lifetime when you think you’re going to die;
It’s nightmares sweat and torture, then it wakes you with a cry.
My hands shake here as I write this and, my heart beats twice as fast
It’s meant to scar and to remind me that it is five years past.
Left broken vessels, black and blue. Under eyes, fresh and new.
Every second a clear bruise for your friend to photo later.
Cause you know this is the last, the very end you’ve got to go.
Ten seconds of your life
But now, your life, you own.

Author's Note: This is a deeply personal piece. I never thought I'd feel the need to write a single poem about this. But it hit me so hard i shook and sweat as i wrote it. I may expand, I may delete. I just don't know how i feel about this yet

So the memory of this came flooding into your mind? I hope writing this was cathartic. I know this is personal, and you are a brave soul to post it.
