Answer to Euphoria

by Michelle Calhoun

It doesn't have to be just a memory,
Down that road we once called yesteryear.
We can take a new path and create new ones
for the years that lie before us while still here.

I can remember sneaking in cans of Mt. Dew
on a restricted diet of "caffiene free".
Borrowing cars and telling lies just to see you.
Being the "Sunshine" that could make your day.

Sharing a cold Royal Crown Cola,
Do you prefer the cup or the can?
Remember Jo peeking in with her flashlight?
While we sat in the dark holding hands.

Cold cheeseburgers and fries,
picking away until dawn.(hospital food, YUCK!)
Black and purple stripes and Chevy t-shirts,
And I don't suppose that you remember flying telephones
or "paperweight" belt buckles?

How about my first meeting of "Mom"
and our discussion of curly haired little blondes?
Our first restaurant, Taco Tico and "one of everything".
"do you mind if I finish that?", Shawn asked,
while I wanted to laugh and scream!
Our first real date, to church
on an early Sunday morn.
I was impressed that you didn't burst into flames.
You Wild Child you!

I wouldn't change any of those things,
still today if I could.
And after 12 years, you've changed
and for the good. ( I know that you never thought that you could)

But you did it all for love, you did it for me.
So you could settle down and grow old (what a sight we will be)
I can assure you right now that this love
Never will grow cold.
I saved you from yourself as you headed
down that destructive, dead-end road.
And you wound up being the Prince
that kissed this ugly toad.

You saved me from lonliness
and my low self esteem.
Aren't you glad we've survived 12 years?
Although, at times, the light did grow dim.

Our love has grown much over the years,
with our beautiful children too.
In my eyes, they are our greatest
and most beautiful achievement so far.
Other than saving one another from ourselves.

And as we grow older together,
we will take that Golden road.
We'll create more memories to add
to the old ones.
Never to replace them.

There are things yet to do,
and places to see,
Like Colorado's Tiny Town, Scotland,
And I still want to go to Tuscany.( so I'm a whiner)

So you see now my dear, the memories are far from through.
I only hope the good Lord will bless me,
so I can live another 60 years with You!
(Just kidding!!)

I love you!
Forever & Always.
Your Singed Angel
XOXOXO

Author's Note: I was taking a walk down memory lane at 4:15 this morning. I have realized that our memories don't have to be left in the past. We can add to them everyday, til death we doth part. There is a lot of my heart and many of my emotions in this. I dedicate this to my Knight in Shining Armour and this is My answer to Euphoria. I hope that I haven't embarrassed us too much. *hugs*
