Beneath An Old Oak Tree

by Kate Demeree

There once was a time when I soared the skies
When I could climb the highest mountain
A time when the eagle cried
As we threw our coins in the fountain

Now the blue has faded to a duller gray
The fog obscures the view
I still search for the sun today
As I look for you

Clouds form pictures before my eyes
The way they used to do
I ponder of life and it's meaning
Of decisions we come to rue

The mocking bird has found his voice
He sings from a gnarled oak tree
Where I sometimes go to remember
The days of you and me

Its sad but I can see hopes despite the hopelessness..'I still search for the sun today As I look for you'. The association of the love with the happiness is so distinct here.

Ah the wonderings of the heart over past events, sometimes so sad... beautifully expressed here my dear.

Gorgeous imagery. A 'true' poem you have crafted here. I enjoyed reading this very much. So much sound, color, and emotion, this poem is alive.

the irony of the mocking bird not wasted on me, that is a very strong closing, Kate. Searching toward the past dream is painful, but above the mocking bird and the dream, is a glorious sky with hope for tomorrow, you just have to be patient and see it, when you turn your eyes the right way. wonderful work

although a little sad...sounds like good memories are lingering. It's good to look back sometimes as we move on :)

Simple and beautiful...which combines to make it elegantly powerful poetry, Kate
